Lomondgate Hotel to double in size
June 14th 2016
The Premier Inn hotel at Lomondgate Services, on the A82 at Dumbarton, is set to almost double in size in response to overwhelming demand since its opening in 2011.
The 60 bedroom Whitbread-owned hotel, which includes the Malt & Myre pub/restaurant, has been granted planning permission to add 54 bedrooms with 79 more parking spaces and landscaping. The planning application stated that the existing hotel is one of the best performing Premier Inns in the region and is regularly full. The expanded hotel should be fully open during 2017.
Mike Edward, Director of Walker Group (Scotland) Ltd which spearheaded the Lomondgate development in partnership with Strathleven Regeneration CIC said, “This is great news for Lomondgate Services which continues to go from strength to strength. There is a great line-up of roadside services including the Premier Inn, Brewer’s Fayre, Scotland’s first drive-thru Costa, Euro Garages’ petrol filling station and Jaconelli’s Fish diner. Whitbread’s decision to expand is testament to the strength of Lomondgate Services’ location at a key gateway to Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park and our agents, Cushman & Wakefield, are now marketing the remaining site for a visitor/tourism facility.”
Located off the A82 Lomondgate is a £140m mixed use development which has achieved phenomenal success since it was launched in 2007 to replace lost jobs and regenerate the site of the former J&B bottling plant. The development has far exceeded its original goals, attracting new companies – including Aggreko and the BBC – and over £80million of investment to the area, with more people employed at Lomondgate than employed in the former bottling plant.
The final brick has also just been laid completing the 344 new homes at Lomondgate which have been developed in phases by Walker Group, Persimmon Homes and Taylor Wimpey. Plans are underway to create a further 58 properties in response to the residential developments’ success.
Earlier this year Lomondgate scooped the title of ‘Community Development Project of the Year’ at the prestigious Scottish Property Awards and Jaconelli’s Fish at Lomondgate Services was named runner up in the ‘Scotland’s Best Newcomer’ category of the Entertainment and Hospitality Awards’.
